We are pleased to host Ann Shaw of Camas, Washington as our 2019 Spring Meeting speaker in Florence. Her work focuses on pictorial quilts that are grounded in the methods and traditions of patchwork. Piecing is what makes these quilts stand apart from other pictorial quilts. Photographs are the inspiration for her patterns and one of a kind designs. The use of patterned fabrics also plays an important role in the look of her quilts. Her Saturday lecture, Playing with Fabric, will discuss the ways fabric choices contribute to the overall impact of a quilt.
She will be also teaching two workshops: Friday’s workshop, Photos to Quilts, will discuss the elements of pictorial quilts, review the major features that create interesting compositions, and note the visual differences between photographs and quilts. Through a series of class photography exercises, we will compare how various photographs translate into quilt designs. Bring your point and shoot camera for a day of visual exploration! The class will introduce the methods and techniques of freezer paper templates and the process of selecting Fabrics for your design. CLICK HERE FOR DETAILS FOR THIS WORKSHOP
She has free dates from March 14-21 if any guilds are interested in booking her while she is in SC. Visit her website annshawquilting.com for more information.
