President's Challenge 2020-2021

South Carolina Quilting History

If you google "South Carolina quilting history" there are numerous articles and books that will enlighten you about how the tradition of quilting in SC has evolved over the pat 150 years.  The early quilts reflected traditions with roots in Europe, Africa, and the American South.  This history will foster your awareness and appreciation of our Southern culture and the quilting craft.

For the challenge, make a 12 1/2" block (12" finished) representing SC quilting history, a block recognizable to SC quilting historians.  This is simple and a learning experience all in one!  Bring it to Spring Meeting 2021 in N. Charleston March, 2021.

Established in 1994, Quilters of South Carolina is dedicated to recognizing individual quilt makers and quilt groups through out South Carolina; to provide opportunities for communication, education, and participation; and to promote the history, art, and craft of quilt making.
